I had top billing on the Mountainview marquee!  Exciting for me.Most of the mosaics were the same as the Reflections show in July. The first gallery slot of the year was slated for my mosaics and the ceramic artwork of Patricia Bonilla.  Patricia also makes color laden mandalas that complement the mosaics beautifully.G...

The Art Place in Marietta, GA, is hosting a Holiday Show and sale starting Nov. 13, 2013 through Dec. 21, 2013.  I had several mosaics in the sale, so we went to the "Sneak Peak" opening.

There was a nice variety of art - fused glass, various clay pieces, paintings, photography, origami, textiles, jewelry, cards, etc.

Oh!  And mosaics of course!  My...

My weekend started with a long checklist: mosaic rocks - check, mosaic fine art - check, mosaic crucifixes - check, greeting cards, business cards, new wire rack, table, tableclothes, wood blocks, Square card reader, automatic screwdriver, etc. etc. etc.  Friday I spent packing everything carefully into the van.  Bright and early Saturday I headed to Summerville, GA for a weekend arts festival.  Once again I was blessed with beautiful, sunny weather and the fall colors were jus...

Marietta Art Walk 2013

I really lucked out with my timing this year.  After the "Reflections" exhibit was finished, I was ready for The Art Walk in downtown Marietta on the square.  I found out that every other first Friday Art Walk had been rained out.  With the exception of my garden mosaics, they would not do well in the rain!  The September and October Art Walks were blessed with fabulous sunny weather.  I love the atmosphere of trendy shops, great restaurants, hip patrons and beautiful...

"Reflections" was a two artist show I had in July at The Art Place in Marietta, GA with Teresa Barnes, a fused glass artist.  Roman poses next to "Summer at the Creek," a smalti mosaic of him at Kennesaw Mountain Park.  He was a great help unloading mosaics for the exhibit.  I borrowed some of my commissioned mosiacs from their owners.  My fine cousin Jim Skelton made it out as well as our fantastic neighbors, Shawn a...

It's About Blooming Time!

It has been a little while since I had mosaics in a gallery  - Reveal My Soul was in Ciel Gallery in Charlotte, NC until the end of December 2012.  So when I found this local community center gallery was accepting submissions for 2013, I entered.  Well, my fine art mosaics were accepted for a two artist show in July, and as an added bonus I was asked to submit for a garden show this month.  I spent a few weeks making some fun garden pieces - garden rocks, a slate plaque an...

About a month ago I decided to give myself a challenge.  I am already working on a commission and have all summer before the deadline.  Instead of working at a nice, leisurely pace and relaxing, I decided to challenge myself with another mosaic.  In response to Sonia King's "Articulate" call for entries, I came up with a design that would show the spirit that moves my art through form, texture, color, innovation, or subject.  The requirement states the piece fully express ...

My First Show

This past weekend, April 6-8 was not just Easter weekend for me.  This was the opening of a gallery show entitled "Back to the Garden" at Ciel Gallery in Charlotte, NC.  Two of my mosaics were accepted into the show, and this was the first time my artwork was on display in a gallery.  Because Charlotte is only four hours from my home in Georgia, I decided to make the trip and see the other mosaics in person.  Now, I confess that my guilty pleasure is looking at other mosai...

Looking Ahead

It seems whenever I am working on a mosaic, I can't help but anticipate future projects.  Right now there is a small online competition for a mosaic featuring "music" as the theme.  I have already made thumbnail sketches of my design and even have it laid out on a leftover piece of wood.  I can't wait to finish my current project and get started on the music mosaic.  But I also set a goal of trying my hand at smalti this year and making a mosaic...
