This past weekend, April 6-8 was not just Easter weekend for me. This was the opening of a gallery show entitled "Back to the Garden" at Ciel Gallery in Charlotte, NC. Two of my mosaics were accepted into the show, and this was the first time my artwork was on display in a gallery. Because Charlotte is only four hours from my home in Georgia, I decided to make the trip and see the other mosaics in person. Now, I confess that my guilty pleasure is looking at other mosaic artwook online. So seeing them in person was a real treat. There is no doubt, the dimensional quality and reflective nature of mosaics is best viewed in person. My favorite piece was John Sollinger's "Astir." You can check it out here: http://roguemosaics.com/artwork/1545337_ASTIR.html
It was very difficult to select just one favorite mosaic when the choices were so rich and diverse. The night was actually a gallery crawl and I as I meandered through other galleries, with paintings and other mediums it confirmed one thing for me. Mosaics are for me. They speak to me like none of the other artwork. I love looking at, and I love making and I love everything about mosaics.
