About a month ago I decided to give myself a challenge. I am already working on a commission and have all summer before the deadline. Instead of working at a nice, leisurely pace and relaxing, I decided to challenge myself with another mosaic. In response to Sonia King's "Articulate" call for entries, I came up with a design that would show the spirit that moves my art through form, texture, color, innovation, or subject. The requirement states the piece fully express my own very individual voice.
Now I'm in the midst of my "challenge," and I don't know if I will meet the deadline for entries - July 23. I'm behind schedule due to something many might identify with - something called life. I lost a full week when I was working Costumes and Backstage Management in a summer play my children were in. Then we had birthday parties, family visiting, holidays - something called life. Now if I buckle down, work extra late, lose a little sleep, and focus on the project I might get finished in time. But if I don't finish by the deadline, I will still have my new mosaic - "Reveal My Soul." And I might also have - something called life.
